Plants are living things. They grow from seeds, need water, light and warmth, and have parts that each do a job: roots drink water, stems hold the plant up, leaves make food and flowers make seeds.

Every part has a job
Roots hold the plant in the ground and take in water. The stem carries water up and holds the plant tall. Leaves use sunlight to make food, and flowers attract insects and make seeds for new plants.
Deciduous trees lose their leaves in autumn; evergreen trees keep their leaves all year round.
